127 | Historic Athens
This project centers on the restoration and renovation of a 100-year-old Athens farmhouse on Henderson Avenue, emphasizing the home's rich historic narrative. Comprehensive investigation and documentation of the existing conditions were undertaken to guide the restoration process. Key elements of the renovation include updates to the kitchen and laundry areas, designed to honor and accommodate the culture and history of the Packer family, who have long been associated with the home.
Throughout the project, challenges typical of older houses, such as outdated electrical systems, were adeptly navigated. The kitchen renovation was especially sensitive to maintaining the historic integrity of the farmhouse, featuring tall 11-foot ceilings and a palette of finishes that complement the beautiful craftsman and historic elements found throughout the house. This project successfully blends modern functionality with a deep respect for the home's storied past, preserving its character while enhancing its livability for future generations.
